A New Hairstyle for a 1:5 Scale 3D-Printed Doll

This boy is a 3D-printed doll in 1:5 scale, and his new look began with a handmade wig. From a closely fitted cap to layers of brown hair, this little project brought together a printed doll and the hands-on work of my atelier.

A Base Made to Fit

First, I made a wig cap that fitted closely to his head. With the base ready, I chose brown hair wefts with a soft wave—the starting point for his new hairstyle.

The photographs show the fitted cap, the doll figure, and the hair tresses laid out on the workbench before the wig took shape.

Weft by Weft

I glued the wefts onto the cap, adding the hair section by section. Gradually, the base disappeared beneath the layers, and the boy acquired a full, slightly tousled head of hair.

At this stage, the lengths were still untrimmed. The workbench photographs capture the wig during construction, before the final haircut and styling.

Ready for a Trim

Once the crown was covered, the wig was ready for its finishing touches: trimming the ends and arranging the hair into shape.

So this boy’s “new haircut” began a little differently, first, I had to make his hair! A fitted cap, brown wefts, and careful handwork gave this 1:5 scale doll the beginnings of a new character.
